Role: Credit Portfolio Manager (Bridging & Commercial Mortgages)
Location: Wolverhampton, 2 days a week in office
Salary: Up to £70,000
This is a company that's going from strength to strength at the moment, carving out a real position as one of the key players in its market while it works through a significant transformation, which makes it an exciting time to be joining. The culture is one of the best you'll come across, close-knit and supportive rather than corporate and hierarchical, and the Group Head of Credit Risk, who you'd be working closely with, is well known for being one of the good ones, approachable and invested in helping people develop.
The focus here is bridging and commercial mortgages, getting close to how those portfolios are performing, where the risk is building and what that means for lending decisions and appetite. You don't need to come in as a heavy analytics specialist, comfort pulling together data and spotting what it's telling you is enough, but you do need a solid grasp of credit risk and how it plays out across a lending book. Background is open too, so whether you've come from underwriting, portfolio management, audit or another part of risk, what matters more is that you understand credit risk and want to build a career around it rather than the exact route you took to get there. The one thing that won't fit is a sales or BD background, since this sits firmly on the risk side of the business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You'll be working closely with colleagues across underwriting, product and finance, feeding into how the company manages risk on these portfolios and helping shape the reporting and recommendations that go up to senior management and committee.
This is a role with a clear route upward, with the plan being that whoever takes it on will move into a senior position within two years, and from there have the chance to build and lead their own team. It's rare to walk into a credit risk seat with that kind of runway already mapped out rather than having to fight for it.
