  • Credit risk management: Credit quality and management of assigned loan portfolio, credit oversight of new loan business, credit approvals within delegated authority and sponsorship of credits for approval outside of delegated authority, credit underwriting guidance, and collaboration with Relationship Management and Portfolio Management Leadership on broader strategic goals, risk appetite, credit strategy, and credit quality goals. A Credit Officer is responsible for enabling loan growth and maintaining good credit quality.

  • Meeting with Relationship Management and Portfolio Management to evaluate new loan opportunities and changes to existing loans: Assess whether opportunity makes strategic and economic sense for HSBC Innovation Banking, understand qualitative and quantitative factors, decide if risk is acceptable and identify areas for additional due diligence.
  • Quarterly portfolio reviews with each assigned team: Review every loan relationship in your assigned portfolios, with emphasis on risk rating, trends, and compliance with loan covenants and reporting requirements. Identify areas of weakness in the portfolio and provide guidance as to their remediation. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
