IFRS 9 Modelling Manager
As an IFRS 9 Modelling Manager you will lead a small team of credit modellers to develop risk models to forecast the Bank's Loan Loss provisions (these models are also components of the Stress Testing and Pricing frameworks).
The remit covers all types of models within the Business Banking IFRS 9 Provisioning landscape (PD/LGD/EAD). The team’s focus is on the development, validation, management and monitoring of our models and providing first class support to our stakeholders across Risk and Finance.
We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you'll be located at our nearest regional office or hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration and in some locations you’ll be expected to spend at least two days a week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, in the office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.
RESPONSIBILITIES
What you’ll be doing
As a Risk Modelling Manager, you'll play a leading role in delivering and enhancing our Business Banking IFRS9 credit risk models. You'll manage key model activities, including quarterly economic model refreshes and PMA calculations, while ensuring outputs meet regulatory, Bank and stakeholder expectations.
Working closely with Risk and Finance colleagues, you'll develop and implement IFRS9 models, deliver model outputs into business-as-usual processes, and present model outcomes with recommendations to address model limitations. You'll also support ad hoc analysis, lead audit reviews of Business Banking IFRS9 model outputs, and produce robust analytics to inform committee and stakeholder decisions.
In addition, you'll provide expertise on Business Banking modelling across the wider organisation, support and develop junior team members, and contribute to broader discussions across the Bank's risk and modelling networks.
About you
As a minimum, you’ll have:

- Confident explaining model outcomes to non-technical specialists and an ability to use persuasive arguments to influence key stakeholders
- Excellent knowledge of a range of Credit Risk Modelling techniques for PD/LGD/EAD (IFRS9/Stress Testing/IRB)
- A degree in a numerate discipline subject (e.g. statistics, maths, engineering, econometrics)
- A solid foundation in statistical programming languages and data querying (SAS/SQL/Python/R)

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
