About the team

We’re looking for a Credit Manager - Specialist Lending to join our Credit Risk function and help shape how we oversee our specialist lending portfolios.

Reporting directly to the Group Head of Credit Risk, this is a visible and influential role with exposure to senior stakeholders, Group Credit Committee, and strategic portfolio decision making.

You’ll focus on our non-residential and specialist lending portfolios, including Commercial, Development Finance, Bridging, Asset Finance, and larger exposures. Although you do not need to have deep experience in every product area, we are looking for someone with strong credit judgement, analytical curiosity, and the ability to translate portfolio performance into clear action.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across Credit Risk, Underwriting, Product, Finance, Strategy, and OSBI to improve insight, strengthen MI, and support the continued evolution of the Group’s credit risk framework.

This role is based from our Wolverhampton office, and there may be occasional travel to London and the South of the UK.

What you will be doing?

In this role, you’ll provide clear analysis, insight, and constructive challenge so that portfolio performance is well understood, monitored, and managed in line with risk appetite, lending strategy, policy, and regulatory expectations.

You’ll have the opportunity to influence risk appetite, lending criteria, portfolio actions, and committee-level decision making as our specialist lending portfolios continue to evolve.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitor portfolio performance across Commercial, Development Finance, Bridging, Asset Finance, and the Group’s larger exposures, analyzing key credit risk indicators, and identifying emerging risks.
  • Lead focused portfolio reviews and deep dives into specific products, sectors, cohorts, or higher-value exposures.
  • Turn portfolio data into clear insight, practical recommendations, and committee-ready reporting for senior management and governance forums.
  • Support risk appetite and policy oversight, including the review of limits, triggers, and lending criteria where performance or market conditions change.
  • Engage with stakeholders across Risk, Underwriting, Product, Legal, Modelling, Finance, and Strategy to support disciplined and commercially balanced credit decisions.
  • Contribute to stress testing, scenario analysis, and forecasting, helping the business understand sensitivity to macroeconomic and credit risk drivers.
  • Support the design and tracking of management actions where emerging risks or performance deterioration are identified.
  • Help improve portfolio MI, reporting processes, and analytical capability across the team.
  • Maintain strong governance through clear documentation, adherence to risk and data policies, and consistent application of credit risk standards.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
