Role Overview

A highly regarded international banking institution is seeking a Mandarin speaking Credit Risk Portfolio Officer to join its growing Risk function in London. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced credit risk professional to play a key role in portfolio oversight, credit analytics, stress testing, provisioning, and asset quality management across a diverse wholesale banking portfolio.

The successful candidate will be responsible for analysing, monitoring, and managing credit risk exposures, ensuring the portfolio remains aligned with the bank's risk appetite while supporting informed lending and investment decisions. The role offers significant exposure to senior stakeholders, portfolio strategy, regulatory reporting, and credit risk governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess credit portfolio performance, identifying emerging risks, trends, and concentration exposures across sectors, geographies, and counterparties.
  • Develop and maintain portfolio analytics, early warning indicator frameworks, and risk monitoring tools to identify potential credit deterioration at an early stage.
  • Produce regular management information and portfolio risk reports for senior management, committees, regulators, and auditors.
  • Lead portfolio stress testing, economic scenario modelling, and credit loss forecasting activities, including IFRS 9 provisioning and reserve analysis.
  • Analyse credit data and risk metrics using statistical and analytical techniques to support proactive risk management and mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor non-performing loan (NPL) trends and conduct root-cause analysis to identify lessons learned and improve portfolio quality.
  • Manage debt write-off processes, ensuring compliance with internal governance standards, accounting requirements, and regulatory expectations.
  • Support the ongoing review and maintenance of credit risk policies, procedures, and operating manuals.
  • Contribute to portfolio strategy discussions and provide insight on capital allocation, asset quality, and risk-adjusted performance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
