About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Credit Analyst Underwriter to join our North America Strategy Risk team at Stripe. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for underwriting and managing a portfolio of our largest and most dynamic business clients. Your primary focus will be to evaluate and mitigate credit risks while supporting Stripe’s growth objectives. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including Sales, Legal, Treasury, and Finance to ensure sound risk management practices. You will work directly with top-tier merchants, ranging from successful startups to well-established institutions, analyzing their business models and financial health to make informed credit decisions. Your insights will help shape onboarding strategies, merchant pricing, and portfolio management, ultimately contributing to Stripe’s continued expansion and financial stability.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess at least 3 years of relevant experience in commercial credit underwriting, financial risk modeling, and cash flow forecasting. A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related fields is required. Strong knowledge of accounting principles and the ability to evaluate financial statements across various industries are essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail. Comfort in engaging with senior executives such as CFOs and CEOs of top merchants is highly valued. Preferred qualifications include technical expertise with SQL, data visualization skills, and experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments such as technology sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of top merchants, including startups and established companies, by analyzing their business models and financial statements.
  • Provide tailored credit risk recommendations that balance risk mitigation with facilitating business growth.
  • Develop a deep understanding of risk factors across different industries, geographies, and operational models to effectively manage portfolio risk.
  • Deliver insights and reports to senior management to support strategic decision-making, including onboarding strategies and merchant pricing analysis.
  • Contribute to the refinement of risk assessment tools and processes to improve key performance indicators such as credit loss targets and portfolio coverage.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners worldwide to support merchants and ensure compliance with risk management standards.
