Role: Credit Risk Modelling Consultant
Location: Central London - 5 days in office
Salary: £40,000 - £70,000
If you've got a couple of years or more of credit risk behind you and you'd like to work somewhere small enough that your work gets noticed, this is a consultancy that hands people real client work early on and backs them to run with it, with a Manager reviewing the result rather than steering every step.
It's founder-led, started by two people with 13 years each in financial services behind them and trusted by some of the best-known names in banking, and the team is small and growing fast. They bring people in early and give them real client work almost straight away, and they'd like you to have a say in how the firm and the way it works develop, so you'd be helping to build it as well as joining it.
The work is varied, so in a given year you might build an IFRS 9 PD and LGD suite for a motor finance lender, rebuild an application scorecard for a card issuer, help on an IRB build or validation and try out a gradient boosting model to see whether the existing regression still earns its place. Most people here have touched all of it within a year, so you pick up IFRS 9 one quarter and IRB the next, and you end up knowing a lot more, a lot sooner, than you would sticking to one type of model.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Credit risk is the main focus, but the company also does data engineering and AI work, often for the same clients, so if that side interests you there's room to spend some of your time on it when a project allows. They use AI tools day to day as well and like people who build their own little prompts and shortcuts and share them around, and from here the path runs on to Senior Consultant, Manager and beyond.
So, if you have:
- 2+ years in credit risk, analytics, data science or quantitative research
- Experience with at least one of IFRS 9, IRB, scorecard development or model validation, and a willingness to learn the others
- A strong degree in a quantitative subject such as maths, stats, econometrics, physics, engineering, computer science or finance (an MSc is a plus but not essential)
- Strong Python you can talk them through, plus SQL to a working standard
- A genuine interest in lending and how it's regulated

And can:
- Run a piece of work with light supervision and get it done on time
- Turn a messy client extract into a clean dataset someone else could rerun
- Explain a model clearly to someone who didn't build it
- Choose the right method for the job and defend it to a regulator
- Stay comfortable as the work changes from one client to the next
If that sounds like the kind of place you'd like to work, with real client work early on and a team that wants your input on how things are done, we'd love to hear from you, and we're happy to send over the full spec or chat through what makes this team a great one to be part of, so just let us know what works best for you.
