The Company

Our client is a recently launched, London-headquartered specialty (re)insurer rooted in the Lloyd’s market, with a mission to deliver innovative, tailored risk solutions to clients worldwide. It combines advanced analytics with deep underwriting expertise to build trusted partnerships and deliver growth for investors and partners.

The business offers specialist capability across property, cyber, credit, marine, energy, terrorism, transition and innovation, and within its first year launched two syndicates covering primary reinsurance and retrocession. Backed by a diverse investor base, from private equity to trade capital, it is investing heavily in talent and technology to support its growth ambitions.

The Role

Working closely with the Director of Underwriting Credit, you will support the underwriting, development and profitable growth of the Credit portfolio. The role blends technical underwriting, portfolio analytics and strategic planning, partnering with the Risk Analytics & Data Science team to develop market-leading pricing capabilities and shape the evolution of the company’s Credit offering.

Responsibilities

Credit Underwriting & Portfolio Management

  • Assess, price and underwrite treaty and delegated Credit (re)insurance business in line with underwriting strategy and risk appetite.
  • Monitor and manage the exposure and performance of the Credit portfolio, providing analysis of profitability, accumulation and optimisation opportunities.
  • Build strong broker and cedant relationships, support new business and represent the company at client and market meetings.
  • Support the negotiation and execution of reinsurance contracts with the Director of Underwriting and the Legal team.
  • Ensure underwriting decisions are documented and comply with delegated authorities, Lloyd’s and internal governance.
  • Work with Operations to ensure accurate data capture and continually improve underwriting workflows and systems.

Risk Analytics & Pricing

  • Partner with the Risk Analytics & Data Science team to enhance Credit pricing models and underwriting tools.
  • Support the development and validation of credit risk models, pricing methodologies and portfolio monitoring.
  • Analyse portfolio performance, loss experience and market data to identify emerging trends and opportunities to improve underwriting.
  • Help develop portfolio analytics, dashboards and management information to support underwriting decisions and capital allocation.
  • Contribute thought leadership on emerging credit risks and the macroeconomic and geopolitical trends affecting the portfolio.

  • Support the annual Credit business plan, including portfolio strategy, budgeting, premium planning and performance tracking.
  • Identify new market opportunities, products and distribution channels to support profitable portfolio growth.
  • Produce market analysis and technical insight to strengthen the company’s market profile and broker engagement.
  • Collaborate across Underwriting, Actuarial, Exposure Management, Claims and Operations to deliver a best-in-class Credit proposition.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience underwriting Credit (re)insurance and related credit risk products.
  • Strong understanding of Credit reinsurance structures, portfolio management and pricing methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial, economic and portfolio data.
  • Experience working with actuarial, modelling or data science teams to develop underwriting tools and pricing.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills with brokers, cedants and internal stakeholders.
  • Commercial mindset with a clear focus on profitable portfolio growth.
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and governance awareness.
  • Proficient in Excel and comfortable working with large datasets and underwriting systems; experience with Power BI, SQL, Python or R would be advantageous
