Credit Underwriter / Credit Analyst – Alternative Business Lender
Location: Altrincham
Salary: Competitive + Benefits
Working Pattern: Full-Time Office Based (5 Days per Week)
My client is a growing alternative lender specialising in providing business loans of up to £500,000 to SMEs across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit a Credit Underwriter / Credit Analyst to join their established credit team in Altrincham.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded credit professional who enjoys analysing businesses, making lending decisions and working within a fast-paced environment.
The Role
As a Credit Underwriter / Credit Analyst, you will be responsible for assessing lending applications from UK SMEs, ensuring that deals are underwritten in line with company policy whilst maintaining a strong customer experience.

Key responsibilities include:
- Assessing business loan applications and making informed credit decisions.
- Analysing company accounts, management information, bank statements and credit reports.
- Conducting affordability and risk assessments on SME borrowers.
- Preparing credit papers and recommendations for larger or more complex cases.
- Liaising with brokers, introducers and customers to obtain additional information where required.
- Monitoring the quality of the lending portfolio and identifying potential risks.
- Working closely with the sales and operations teams to ensure a smooth funding process.
- Supporting continuous improvements to underwriting processes and credit policy.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience within credit underwriting, credit analysis or business lending.
- Strong financial analysis and risk assessment skills.
- Experience reviewing SME financial information.
- Excellent attention to detail and decision-making ability.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to challenge where appropriate.
- The ability to manage multiple applications in a fast-paced environment.
