Salary

Starting from £70,000 plus Bonus + Car

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Credit Underwriting Manager to join our Scania Financial Services team and lead our Credit Underwriting function.

In this key leadership role, you will oversee the evaluation, assessment and management of credit risk, enabling our customers to finance Scania trucks, buses and services responsibly and sustainably.

You will lead the underwriting team, ensuring lending decisions are sound, timely and consistent, balancing commercial opportunities with effective risk management while operating in line with Scania’s values, principles and credit standards.

Reporting to the Credit & Operations Director and forming part of the Operational Management Team, you will balance the consistent delivery of day-to-day underwriting activities with identifying and implementing opportunities to improve processes and ways of working.

You will lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of Credit Underwriters, creating an environment that supports sound decision-making, continuous improvement and strong performance, while ensuring the team contributes to our wider financial goals and business objectives.

In this role you will:

  • Make sound credit decisions within delegated authority, assessing customer affordability, financial strength, asset/security risk and overall exposure.
  • Own credit risk and portfolio quality, monitoring arrears, defaults and losses to identify trends and improve underwriting criteria, policy and risk appetite.
  • Ensure robust risk and regulatory controls, acting as a First Line of Defence and embedding Consumer Duty, AML/KYC and compliant credit processes.
  • Lead and develop the underwriting team, setting clear objectives and KPIs, coaching colleagues, building capability and supporting recruitment and succession planning.
  • Drive continuous improvement and change, using data and market insight to enhance underwriting processes, decisioning, systems, automation and customer outcomes.
  • Partner effectively across the business, working closely with Sales, Dealers, Credit Control, Collections and Operations to balance commercial objectives with prudent credit standards.
  • Provide clear and constructive credit advice, explaining decisions, managing challenge and identifying alternative structures where appropriate to support viable business.
  • Influence business strategy, using credit and portfolio insight to inform senior management, product development, campaigns and broader business planning.

About you:

  • Strong Commercial acumen – Able to translate market insight into commercially viable strategy
  • Analytical thinker – Uses market insight and internal data to analyse and make sound decisions
  • Strong Leadership experience – able to lead and develop your team of four Credit underwriters to achieve personal and company goals.
  • Keen eye for process improvement – Plan, prioritise and embed process change while protecting daily service levels.
  • Collaborator and team player – Working closely with other key departments within the financial business to influence decisions and key changes, all whilst achieve a common goal.
  • Stakeholder management – pro-actively engaging with and effectively managing the expectations and opinions of those around you, specifically individuals who are relying on or are impacted by the work you are delivering.
