Job Purpose
As a Crematorium Operative (Cremator Trained), you will provide operational support at Astwood Crematorium, ensuring cremation services are delivered safely, professionally, and with the highest standards of dignity and respect. You will operate cremation equipment, maintain accurate records, support funeral services, and assist with the day-to-day running of the crematorium.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Operate and monitor cremation equipment safely and efficiently.
- Carry out routine operational checks and maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate cremation records and documentation.
- Handle cremated remains in accordance with regulations and best practice.
- Support the safe and effective operation of the crematorium.
- Assist with chapel duties during funeral services.
- Receive funeral cortèges and liaise with funeral directors.
- Support mourners and visitors in a professional and respectful manner.
- Prepare the chapel between services.
- Ensure funeral services run smoothly and on time.
- Follow all crematorium procedures, health and safety regulations, and operating standards.
- Use Council equipment, vehicles, and tools appropriately.
- Complete all required administration and record keeping accurately.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure service delivery standards are maintained.

Essential Experience Required
- Recent experience working within a crematorium or bereavement service.
- Experience operating cremation equipment.
- Experience handling cremated remains respectfully and appropriately.
- Experience maintaining cremation records and operational documentation.
- Knowledge of crematorium procedures and legislation.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- Experience working within a customer-facing environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience supporting funeral services and working with funeral directors.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in sensitive situations.

Essential Qualifications Required
- Recognised Cremator Training Certificate.
- Evidence of recent practical experience operating cremation equipment.
- Right to Work in the UK.
Additional Information to Note
- Working hours: 37 hours per week.
- Location: Astwood Crematorium, Tintern Avenue, Worcester, WR3 8HA.
- Reason for Hire: Vacancy pending recruitment.
- Rota shifts:
- 08:00 – 16:00
- 10:00 – 18:00
- Interview Date: 1st October 2026.
- Interview Duration: Approximately 30 minutes.
- Supplier Submission Deadline: 30th September 2026.
- We work on bi-weekly payment schedule.
