Role Overview
A highly regarded national law firm is seeking an accomplished lawyer to join its market-leading Crime & Regulatory team based in Manchester.
This is a rare opportunity to join a specialist practice recognised by both Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners for its expertise in crime, health and safety, and professional discipline work.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the strategic development and growth of the team while managing a high-quality and varied caseload.

This respected and unique legal practice provides specialist legal services to both insured and non-insured clients across a broad spectrum of industries. With offices in Manchester, Leeds and London, the firm employs more than 60 specialist solicitors and is recognised for its expertise in civil, casualty, employment, commercial, crime and regulatory law.
The firm's crime and regulatory team supports a leading commercial insurance business, advising SMEs, professionals, associations and third-sector organisations on a wide range of challenging and complex matters.
The Opportunity
Joining a well-established team of experienced lawyers and support professionals, the successful candidate will contribute to the strategic leadership of the department whilst handling complex and high-profile matters across the full spectrum of regulatory and business crime work.
Areas of work include:
- Inquests and Public Inquiries
- Professional Discipline
- Gross Misconduct Investigations in Policing
- Health & Safety Prosecutions
- Licensing Matters
- Environmental Regulation
- Entity Regulation, including Ofsted and CQC matters

The role offers a blend of technical legal work, leadership responsibilities, client relationship management and business development activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the strategic growth and development of the Crime & Regulatory team
- Managing a complex caseload of contentious and non-contentious regulatory matters
- Conducting advocacy where appropriate
- Advising businesses and individuals on a wide range of regulatory and criminal law issues
- Supervising, mentoring and developing junior lawyers
- Building and maintaining relationships with internal referrers, corporate clients and business partners
- Supporting business development initiatives and marketing activities
- Contributing to governance, compliance and operational management matters
- Managing financial performance, budgets and billing targets
- Supporting legal helpline and digital knowledge services through content development and quality assurance
Candidate Requirements
The successful candidate will be an experienced regulatory lawyer with significant expertise in one or more of the firm's core practice areas and an enthusiasm to help lead and develop teams. Applicants should demonstrate:
- Extensive experience in crime and/or regulatory law
- Existing Partner-level experience or the capability and ambition to step into a Partner role
- Strong technical expertise across complex regulatory matters
- Experience supervising and mentoring legal professionals
- A commercial approach to client service and case management
- Proven business development and relationship management skills
- Knowledge of legal expenses insurance and insurer referral arrangements
- Excellent communication and advocacy skills
- Strong financial management and commercial awareness
- Exceptional client care and stakeholder management abilities
- High levels of attention to detail and organisational skills
