Role Description
This is a full-time Criminal Defence Solicitor role based in London with a hybrid working arrangement, combining court, police station and office-based work with some freedom to work from home when possible. Day-to-day responsibilities include advising clients on criminal law matters, preparing and managing case files, drafting legal documents, and representing clients at police stations, Magistrates’ Courts, and Crown Courts. The role involves interviewing clients and witnesses, assessing evidence, liaising with counsel and experts, and negotiating with prosecuting authorities where appropriate. The solicitor will be expected to manage a varied caseload, meet deadlines, ensure high standards of client care, and comply with all regulatory and professional obligations. Collaboration with colleagues, participation in internal training, and contribution to practice development are also part of the role.

- Qualified solicitor with current practising certificate in England and Wales, with demonstrable experience in criminal defence.
- Strong advocacy skills (or a desire to develop them), including experience representing clients in Magistrates’ and Crown Courts and at police station interviews.
- Excellent legal drafting, case analysis, and document preparation capabilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven client care skills, including clear communication, empathy, confidentiality, and the ability to support clients in stressful situations.
- Effective time management and organisational skills, with the ability to handle a busy and diverse caseload under pressure.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team, including in a hybrid environment with some remote work.
- Sound knowledge of criminal law, procedure, and relevant sentencing guidelines, with commitment to continuous professional development.
- Competence in using legal case management systems and standard office software; willingness to adapt to new technologies.
- Full UK driving licence and ability to travel to courts and police stations as required (beneficial but not essential).
- Experience with Legal Aid work and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., SRA requirements) is an advantage but not essential.
