Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and motivated Criminal Justice Liaison Team Leader to join our established team. This is a key registrant post within the service, and as such applicants must hold a recognised professional registration such as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) or Social Worker (Social Care Wales).

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the resources within BCUHB CJLS are maximised and will also have responsibility for the day to day and strategic management of the Criminal Justice Liaison Service including:

  • Recruitment and supervision of staff
  • Deputising for the service manager
  • Formulating and presenting complex information for assurance reporting
  • Ensuring day to day safe and effective running of the team and its duties
  • Providing cover in force control room where needed
  • Undertaking complex clinical assessments within police custody, courts, Probation building and other areas across the division
  • Ensuring effective relationships and ways of working exist between CJLS and partner agencies when required by the Service Manager

This role will work closely with North Wales Police and criminal justice services to ensure that people who may be vulnerable through mental ill-health/disorder are supported to access the most appropriate and least restrictive pathways.

This role is subject to successful police vetting.

Main duties of the job

  • Overseeing the general day to day running of BCUHB North Wales Criminal Justice Liaison (CJLS).
  • Working in Criminal Justice Liaison Service, with the flexibility of working across the areas, dependent on skill and service need.
  • Supervision of and support to CJLS Practitioners. Informal support to BCUHB MH&LD Division colleagues.
  • Delivering a high quality clinical service to patients and their families.
  • Managing / support CJLS Practitioners to manage complex assessment in court, custody suite, criminal justice agencies and during Force control room triage work
  • Liaising with multiple criminal justice agencies, police and other partners including third sector and lived experience agencies.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications And/or Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Degree Educated in relevant field e.g. Mental Health Nursing or Social Work with relevant experience
  • Professional Qualification at Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent level of training and experience
  • Knowledge of Criminal Justice agenda along with developing policies both local and national level
  • Track record of significant continuous professional and managerial development
  • Up to date knowledge of the current health agenda, NHS policy ad mental health legislation
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of governance matters
  • An ongoing commitment to personal and professional development
  • Good keyboard / IT skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email and PowerPoint
  • A clear understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice
  • Ability to travel between sites in timely manner

Desirable criteria

  • Existing accreditation relating to Practice Educator/Work Based Supervisor to support Student Social Workers / Nurses through placements
  • Qualification in providing supervision / training / development of staff
  • Master qualification or working towards this level of qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working in community setting and making decisions autonomously
  • Significant experience in Team Leadership / Team development
  • Experience supervising staff and managing a team / service
  • Experience of working with people who have difficulty in engaging with services and have complex mental health needs
  • Evidence of extensive post registration experience with working with adults experiencing mental health related difficulties
  • Experience of assessing, planning, co-ordinating and managing people with mental health problems in a community setting
  • Producing and developing policies & practice guidelines
