Are you a motivated Police Station Accredited Representative (PSAR) looking to take the next step in your criminal law career?

JNP Legal is seeking an ambitious Criminal Paralegal to join our expanding Crime Department. This is an excellent opportunity to join one of South Wales' most established and respected law firms, working alongside experienced criminal defence solicitors on a varied and rewarding caseload.

The Role

You will play a key role within our Criminal Defence Team, supporting solicitors whilst managing your own responsibilities and client interactions.

Your duties will include:

  • Attending police stations and advising clients under your Police Station Accreditation.
  • Assisting solicitors with the preparation and progression of criminal cases.
  • Preparing legal documents, statements and correspondence.
  • Liaising with clients, courts, the Crown Prosecution Service, counsel and third parties.
  • Managing case files from opening through to conclusion.
  • Ensuring all cases are progressed efficiently and in line with court deadlines.
  • Maintaining accurate records, attendance notes and time recording.
  • Supporting advocacy preparation and trial preparation.
  • Delivering exceptional levels of client care throughout the client journey.
  • Assisting the department with compliance requirements, Legal Aid administration and quality standards.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Current Police Station Accreditation (PSAR).
  • Experience working within criminal law.
  • Excellent client care skills.
  • Strong organisational and file management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritise workloads.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to transport.

Desirable

  • Experience dealing with Legal Aid matters.
  • Magistrates' Court experience.
  • Experience using legal case management systems.
  • A desire to progress towards qualification as a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive.
