The Role
You will play a key role within our Criminal Defence Team, supporting solicitors whilst managing your own responsibilities and client interactions.
Your duties will include:
- Attending police stations and advising clients under your Police Station Accreditation.
- Assisting solicitors with the preparation and progression of criminal cases.
- Preparing legal documents, statements and correspondence.
- Liaising with clients, courts, the Crown Prosecution Service, counsel and third parties.
- Managing case files from opening through to conclusion.
- Ensuring all cases are progressed efficiently and in line with court deadlines.
- Maintaining accurate records, attendance notes and time recording.
- Supporting advocacy preparation and trial preparation.
- Delivering exceptional levels of client care throughout the client journey.
- Assisting the department with compliance requirements, Legal Aid administration and quality standards.

What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
- Current Police Station Accreditation (PSAR).
- Experience working within criminal law.
- Excellent client care skills.
- Strong organisational and file management abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritise workloads.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Full UK driving licence and access to transport.
Desirable
- Experience dealing with Legal Aid matters.
- Magistrates' Court experience.
- Experience using legal case management systems.
- A desire to progress towards qualification as a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive.
