Our client is seeking an experienced Crime Solicitor to join its team in Northampton, Northamptonshire.

While professional experience and qualifications are key for this role, make sure to check you have the preferable soft skills before applying if required.

You will be handling a varied criminal caseload and providing advice and representation to clients from initial instruction through to conclusion. The role would suit a solicitor with experience of Legal Aid work and advocacy who is confident managing their own caseload.

The Role

You Will Be Responsible For

  • Interviewing and advising clients
  • Managing a varied criminal casework caseload
  • Undertaking advocacy and attending court, including Saturday Court
  • Attending police stations when required, including outside normal working hours
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case management records
  • Regularly reviewing cases and ensuring matters progress efficiently
  • Ensuring casework is billed promptly
  • Preparing bills for private clients and submitting interim payment claims to the Legal Aid Agency where appropriate
  • Keeping up to date with changes in criminal law and practice
  • Attending relevant training and professional development courses
  • Participating in the firm's 24-hour emergency line when required
  • Managing deadlines and prioritising competing demands effectively

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales
  • Experience in criminal law and Legal Aid practice
  • Advocacy experience
  • Good knowledge of criminal legal procedures
  • Experience managing your own caseload with limited supervision
  • Strong client care and communication skills
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • Understanding of legal billing procedures
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Full driving licence and access to your own vehicle
