NQ - 3 PQE Duty Solicitor | Birmingham

TSR Legal are working with a well-established legal practice that is continuing to grow its Criminal Defence offering and is looking to appoint a Criminal Defence Solicitor to its Birmingham team.

This is a great opportunity for a solicitor who wants to build on their existing criminal experience within a team that handles a broad range of publicly funded work. The role offers plenty of client contact and advocacy, alongside the opportunity to take ownership of your own matters.

The Opportunity

You will become a key member of the Criminal Defence team, dealing with matters from the initial client consultation through to resolution. Your day-to-day work is likely to include:

  • Advising clients at various stages of criminal proceedings
  • Dealing with matters arising from police custody
  • Preparing cases and representing clients at court
  • Undertaking advocacy in the Magistrates' Court
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients
  • Taking responsibility for progressing your own matters efficiently
  • Working closely with colleagues across the wider criminal team

The position would particularly suit someone who enjoys the variety of criminal defence work and is comfortable balancing client care, case preparation and advocacy.

About You

We're keen to hear from solicitors who have:

  • NQ+ Solicitor within Criminal Defence experience
  • Experience working with publicly funded criminal matters
  • Duty Solicitor status, or a willingness to work towards accreditation
  • Confidence appearing in the Magistrates' Court
  • Good judgement and the ability to make decisions independently
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A well-organised approach to managing competing priorities
  • The resilience to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
