Outbreach is a specialist cyber incident response and crisis management firm working with mid market organisations in the UK and the Gulf. We bring together incident management, digital forensics, legal, crisis communications and recovery under one roof so that a client in the middle of a breach has one partner rather than five.
We are looking for a Crisis Communications Manager to deliver communications support to organisations during cyber incidents. You would be the second practitioner in a function that currently rests on one person, and you would carry real delivery from the start. The role sits behind Media Ready, our crisis communications offering, and works directly with the incident response team rather than downstream of it. When an incident is live, communications is scheduled alongside containment rather than after it.
Key Responsibilities
- Live Delivery: Deliver crisis communications on live incidents, including holding statements, stakeholder updates and media handling.
- Technical Translation: Turn technical findings into language a board, a customer or a journalist can use, without overstating or understating what is known.
- Incident Alignment: Work directly with Incident Managers so that communications, containment and notification stay aligned.
- Readiness Planning: Build and maintain client crisis communications plans, message frameworks and pre approved templates.
- Notification Support: Support notification communications alongside the legal team, keeping wording consistent with the regulatory position.
- Monitoring: Monitor coverage, sentiment and misinformation during an incident, and advise on whether to respond.
- Exercises: Run client tabletop exercises and media training as part of readiness engagements.
- Internal Communications: Manage internal and employee communications for clients during an incident.
- Post Incident Review: Lead communications reviews and feed the lessons back into the playbooks.

Skills and Experience
- Crisis Experience: Proven crisis or issues communications experience, in house, in an agency or in a consultancy.
- Media Relations: Experience handling difficult enquiries under time pressure.
- Writing Speed: Able to write fast and cleanly, and to get sign off from anxious stakeholders without losing the message.
- Cyber Security Experience (required): Professional experience working in or alongside cyber security, with enough depth to work with a forensic timeline and ask the right questions of it.
- Disclosure Judgement: Sound judgement on what to say, what not to say, and when saying nothing is the right call.
- Resilience: This work happens at speed, often out of hours, and usually on the client's worst week.
- Eligibility: Right to work in the UK.

Highly Desirable (But Not Essential)
- Experience communicating through a ransomware or data theft incident.
- Regulated sector experience, particularly financial services or healthcare.
- Experience designing or running crisis simulations.
- CIPR or PRCA membership, or a relevant qualification.
- Experience of the UAE or wider GCC media environment.
Incidents are unpredictable and this role carries an on call element. There is a named associate panel behind the role so that two concurrent incidents do not land on one person.
