BACKGROUND

M.S. or Ph.D. | 5+ years hands-on

THE OPPORTUNITY

A VC-backed precision-oncology company is developing engineered, programmable therapeutic constructs. The team is looking for a deeply hands-on scientist who can turn design ideas into buildable constructs, iterate rapidly, and generate the experimental material that drives platform decisions.

You will own the design-build-test cycle for engineered Cas-based payloads. The role combines molecular cloning, protein engineering, and high-throughput experimental iteration, with significant influence over which constructs progress into downstream cellular and preclinical studies.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

  • Design and build engineered Cas-based therapeutic constructs, including architectures intended to control activity or target selectivity.
  • Use iterative engineering and directed-evolution approaches to improve specificity, performance, and controllability.
  • Extend construct designs across additional molecular targets and demonstrate that the platform can be reused modularly.
  • Design and clone guide libraries for broad specificity and off-target profiling workflows.
  • Partner with cell biology and computational colleagues to convert design hypotheses into experimentally testable variants.
  • Maintain a rapid, well-documented build cadence across several programs.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

EVIDENCE OF FIT

Asriel will look for demonstrated ownership in the work itself, not only matching titles or keywords. Strong evidence is likely to include:

  • Substantial hands-on molecular cloning using methods such as Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate, or equivalent modular workflows.
  • Direct design and engineering of CRISPR/Cas constructs, not only use of standard commercial systems.
  • Experience applying directed evolution or systematic variant generation to protein or construct optimization.
  • Design of mammalian and bacterial expression vectors and generation of stable cell lines.
  • Repeated delivery of fast construct-build cycles with clear troubleshooting ownership.
  • Use of fluorescent or luminescent reporters to evaluate construct behavior.

PARTICULARLY RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • Conditional, switchable, or inducible protein systems.
  • Base-editing or prime-editing construct design.
  • NGS library preparation for guide screening or specificity assays.
  • Structural biology, protein biochemistry, or mechanistic protein engineering.

THE PERSON LIKELY TO THRIVE

You enjoy building and troubleshooting more than only conceptualizing. You can explain what you personally designed, what failed, how you changed the construct, and why the next iteration worked better.
