Engineering Manager – Mission Critical Facilities
Chingford, Essex | £63,000 Guaranteed Package | Up to £71,500 Total Remuneration + Benefits
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Manager to join a major organisation operating a highly business-critical facility in Chingford, Essex.
This is a senior operational leadership position with responsibility for the safe, compliant and resilient operation of engineering and building services across a complex, mission-critical environment.
You’ll lead a multi-skilled engineering team of approximately 20, including apprentices, with responsibility for maintenance, operational resilience, Safe Systems of Work, contractors, suppliers and minor works/capital replacement projects. The environment includes critical infrastructure such as UPS systems and standby generation, with continuous availability essential to site operations.
The role is particularly well suited to an experienced Engineering Manager, Building Services Manager, Technical Manager or senior engineering leader from a critical environment such as data centres, banking, manufacturing, healthcare, utilities or other high-availability facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop and manage a multi-skilled engineering and maintenance team
- Ensure the safe, compliant and resilient operation of critical building services
- Provide operational oversight of electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including critical power systems
- Own planned maintenance delivery, ensuring works are completed safely, on time and to the required standard
- Lead the engineering response during incidents, coordinating recovery and minimising operational impact
- Provide leadership and assurance around Safe Systems of Work, risk assessments and permit-controlled activities
- Drive a strong culture around safety, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement
- Manage engineering suppliers, contractors and associated budgets
- Monitor asset performance, maintenance data, compliance and operational risk
- Contribute to lifecycle planning, risk mitigation and engineering strategy
- Oversee minor works and small capital replacement projects from scope through to delivery
- Support energy efficiency, plant optimisation and sustainability initiatives

Requirements
- Minimum HNC or equivalent engineering qualification
- Proven experience leading maintenance, facilities or engineering teams
- Experience within a technically complex, critical or high-availability environment
- Good understanding of electrical and mechanical building services
- Experience working with Safe Systems of Work
- Strong leadership and people-management capability
- Experience managing planned maintenance, contractors and engineering performance
- Comfortable operating in a stakeholder-facing engineering leadership position
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status would be advantageous
- NEBOSH General Certificate would be advantageous
- CAFM experience would be beneficial
- AP/SAP experience or capability would be advantageous

Package
- £58,000 basic salary
- £63,000 guaranteed annual cash package
- Additional AP & SAP allowances up to £3,500
- Up to £71,500 total annual cash remuneration including bonuses
- Industry leading pension on top of the cash package
- 35-hour working week
- Monday–Friday, approximately 8:00–4:00 with flexibility
- Excellent training and professional development
- Permanent, site-based position
