The Position: Cross-Skilled Engineer

Role Title: Multi-Skilled Engineer (Cross-Skilled) Location: Cliffe Vale, Stoke-on-Trent, UK Salary: Up to £35,457.87 per annum (DOE – Dependent On Experience) Hours: Monday–Friday, 37.5 hours per week Contract: Full-time, Permanent Focus Area: Multi-disciplinary engineering across mechanical and electrical systems

About the Role

As a Multi-Skilled Engineer, you’ll thrive in a hands-on, dynamic environment where no two days are the same. Your expertise will centre on maintaining and enhancing the processing plant’s mechanical and electrical systems to ensure peak performance, minimise downtime, and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Keeping the Plant Running Efficiently

  • Perform planned and reactive maintenance across mechanical and electrical equipment (e.g., pumps, motors, conveyors, fans, filters, mills)
  • Fault-finding and quick resolution to prevent extended downtime
  • Support plant upgrades, installations, and improvements
  • Identify root causes of breakdowns to prevent recurrence
  • Recognise and log work to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

2. Planning, Collaboration & Safety

  • Coordinate with supervisors to schedule maintenance and shutdown work
  • Ensure parts and resources are available when required
  • Work within a collaborative engineering team
  • Adhere to Imerys safety standards, permits, and procedures
  • Conduct risk assessments and maintain safe working practices
  • Keep work areas clean, organised, and compliant

What Makes an Outstanding Multi-Skilled Engineer?

Essential Traits & Qualifications:

✔ Hands-on problem-solving engineer with multi-disciplinary (mechanical + electrical) awareness ✔ Strong commitment to safety and adherence to hazardous environments ✔ Prides themselves on reliability and efficiency under pressure ✔ Team player with ownership mindset—takes initiative and completes tasks well

Core Requirements:

  • Engineering experience in an industrial/manufacturing setting
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent apprenticeship) qualification
  • Experience managing both planned maintenance and breakdown responses
  • Valid UK driving license
  • Expertise in operating leading ERP systems (e.g., SAP noted as desirable)

  • Multi-skilled background (preferably with experience across mechanical and electrical systems)
  • Mobile plant licences (e.g., forklift, MEWPs, telehandlers)
