Hiring: Lead Cryptography Engineer | Leeds, UK
📍 Location: Leeds, UK – Hybrid (2 days/week onsite)
💷 Rate: £400/day Inside IR35
📅 Contract: 6 months+
We are looking for an experienced Lead Cryptography Engineer to lead the engineering capability for Key Management Services within a Cryptography Lab.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering team responsible for Key Management services
- Own end-to-end service reliability, operational health, and continuous improvement
- Drive the evolution of enterprise Key Management Services and crypto-agility
- Establish modern DevOps and engineering practices across cryptographic platforms
- Lead and coach engineering teams, including performance and capability development
- Ensure services comply with security policies, regulatory requirements, and audit controls
- Work closely with Product Owners, Risk, Compliance, and Audit stakeholders
- Drive resilience, scalability, reliability, and operational excellence
- Provide technical leadership around HSM lifecycle management and cryptographic ceremonies

Essential Skills & Experience
- Senior Engineering Leadership experience
- Strong Key Management / Cryptography knowledge
- Enterprise KMS operating models and cryptographic controls
- HSM lifecycle management experience
- Crypto-agility and modern DevOps practices
- Experience leading and developing engineering teams
- Strong security, regulatory, and audit awareness
- Experience with highly available and resilient platforms
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

Desirable
- Banking / Financial Services / Financial Markets experience
- Experience operating cryptographic platforms in regulated environments
- Engineering maturity, SRE, and operational excellence at scale
