We're Hiring: Crime Scene Investigator (Tier 1)

EMSOU Forensic Services (East Midlands Region)

Full-time (7-day rotating shift pattern)
Starting salary: £30,333
Closing date: 22/10/2026

Are you a detail-oriented, methodical individual with an interest in forensic science, photography and criminal investigations? We are seeking a Crime Scene Investigator (Tier 1) to join our EMSOU Forensic Services Crime Scene Investigation Team at Nottinghamshire Police.

What you'll do

  • Attend and examine crime scenes, maximising forensic opportunities to support investigations and the criminal justice process.
  • Conduct crime scene examinations at volume crime incidents and support more complex and major investigations under supervision.
  • Recover, preserve and record forensic evidence in line with national standards and best practice.
  • Produce accurate written and photographic records of crime scene examinations.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 17020 standards and Forensic Science Regulator Codes of Practice.
  • Contribute to disaster victim identification (DVI) specialist work streams when required.
  • Ensure CSI equipment, vehicles and consumables remain operational and fit for purpose.
  • Attend court and provide evidence relating to forensic examinations and findings.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a regional CSI team to support service improvements and operational projects.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working in a customer-focused environment.
  • Ability to work in a logical, methodical manner, particularly under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to analyse information, form conclusions and present findings both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications and computer systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A Stage 1 CSI qualification (or equivalent), a science/photography qualification at Level 3 or above, or relevant experience within forensic science, fingerprints, photography or a related discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence and the ability to pass the Police CSI driving assessment.
