Interim Curriculum Manager - English, Maths, Digital & SEND
East London | £400-£450 per day (Inside IR35) | ASAP Start | Contract to March 2027 (with scope to extend)
A highly regarded Adult Learning Service within an East London local authority is seeking an experienced English, Maths, Digital & SEND Manager to lead a key area of provision within its adult and community learning offer.
This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished education leader with expertise across English, Maths, Digital Skills and SEND/Additional Learning Support, who can drive curriculum quality, inclusion, learner achievement and service performance across multiple learning centres.
The role requires a strong on-site presence, with 4+ days per week in service locations across East London.
The Opportunity
Reporting into the Head of Curriculum, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for:
- English, Maths and Digital Skills provision from Entry Level through to Level 2
- Functional Skills, GCSE and Essential Digital Skills programmes
- SEND, Inclusive Learning and Additional Learning Support services
- Tutors, Learning Support Assistants, SEND specialists and curriculum staff
- Quality improvement, learner outcomes and service compliance
You will play a pivotal role in ensuring adult learners receive high-quality, inclusive learning experiences that support progression into further education, employment, apprenticeships and independent living.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of the English, Maths and Digital curriculum.
- Drive learner recruitment, attendance, retention, achievement and progression.
- Oversee SEND provision, Inclusive Learning programmes and Additional Learning Support services.
- Embed a culture of inclusion, accessibility and high expectations across the organisation.
- Ensure compliance with SEND legislation, EHCP requirements, exam access arrangements and funding regulations.
- Lead curriculum reviews using learner performance data, stakeholder feedback and labour market intelligence.
- Manage curriculum and support budgets, staffing structures and resource deployment.
- Undertake lesson observations and quality assurance activities to improve teaching, learning and assessment.
- Support Ofsted readiness, Self-Assessment Reports (SAR) and Quality Improvement Plans (QIP).
- Develop staff capability through coaching, training and professional development programmes.
- Build strong partnerships with employers, specialist agencies, local authorities and SEND stakeholders.
- Champion the use of digital and assistive technologies to improve learner engagement and outcomes.

About You
We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate:
- Significant leadership experience within Adult Education, Further Education or Community Learning.
- A proven track record of managing English, Maths, Digital Skills or SEND provision.
- Strong knowledge of Functional Skills, GCSE, Essential Digital Skills and adult learning programmes.
- Extensive experience of SEND, Additional Learning Support and inclusive learning practice.
- Experience of managing teaching and support staff and improving performance.
- Strong understanding of adult education funding, quality frameworks and compliance requirements.
- Experience of curriculum planning, budget management and service development.
- Knowledge of EHCP processes, access arrangements and reasonable adjustments.
- A passion for widening participation, improving learner outcomes and promoting inclusion.

Essential Qualifications
- Degree-level qualification (or equivalent relevant experience).
- Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DET or equivalent).
- Relevant specialist expertise in English, Maths and/or Adult Education.
- SEND or Learning Difficulties and Disabilities qualification/experience.
- Management qualification or substantial leadership experience.

- Location: East London
- Rate: £400-£450 per day
- IR35 Status: Inside IR35
- Start Date: ASAP
- Duration: Until 31 March 2027
- Extension: Likely, subject to funding and performance
- Working Pattern: Full-time
- Attendance: 4+ days per week on-site across multiple learning centres
