Working in our stores
We’re proud that our stores have been at the heart of the communities they serve for over 150 years,
united by a shared passion for food and putting customers first. As a Customer Delivery Driver, you’ll be the special ingredient that delivers customer orders straight to their doorsteps, along with energy, warmth and care, embracing our commitment to give our customers everything they choose to shop online with Sainsbury’s for, day in day out.
Important checks before you apply
- You must be over 18 years old and have held a full UK/EU driving licence for at least 12 months with no more than 6 points on it
- You will complete an online driving risk assessment as part of your interview and, if you’re successful, there’ll be a driving assessment when you join us
- You must have Right to Work eligibility in the UK
- Sainsbury’s has created a safer driving environment by installing in-cab AI cameras that monitor driver behaviour and help ensure compliance with road laws and defensive‑driving standards to protect drivers and other road users
What You’ll Be Doing
- Being the face of Sainsbury’s at every doorstep you deliver to, making them feel valued through a thoughtful, friendly and helpful delivery service
- Driving a 3.5 tonne refrigerated van to deliver groceries to our customers on time and in great condition
- Completing checks to make sure the van is roadworthy, clean and organised, and that customers’ shopping is secure before setting off
- Following planned routes and driving safely in a variety of locations, traffic, weather and road conditions
- Moving containers weighing up to 15kg and delivering shopping to a variety of properties, which may include steps, lifts or longer walks from the van
- Communicating brilliantly with customers, including keeping them informed of any delays, dealing with customer queries and any changes to their order
- When not out making deliveries, you may need to help across the store as needed

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
