Build relationships. Build sales. Build your career.
We’re looking for a commercially minded Customer Development Manager to join the team at Mr Central Heating in Dagenham.
This is a hands-on sales role for someone who enjoys talking to customers, spotting opportunities and turning them into business. You’ll take ownership of a customer base, develop existing accounts, bring lapsed customers back to us and proactively find new business.
You don’t necessarily need plumbing and heating experience. If you have a strong background in sales, telesales, account management or customer development and know how to build genuine relationships with customers, we’d like to hear from you.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be at the heart of our branch sales activity, working closely with the Branch Manager and wider team to grow sales, margin and customer loyalty.
You’ll
- Manage and develop existing customer accounts
- Follow up quotations quickly and consistently - we don’t like leaving opportunities behind
- Reconnect with lapsed and declining customers and win back their business
- Make proactive warm and cold calls to generate new opportunities
- Identify and open new trade accounts
- Get to know your customers, how they buy and what matters to them
- Spot opportunities to increase sales, order values and product ranges
- Keep accurate records of calls, quotations and opportunities on our CRM
- Work with the branch team to deliver sales and gross profit targets
- Provide knowledgeable, responsive and straightforward customer service

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We’re Looking For
You’ll need a proven track record in sales, telesales, account management or customer development, along with the confidence to pick up the phone and create opportunities rather than wait for them to come to you.
You’ll Be Someone Who
- Builds rapport easily and enjoys developing long-term customer relationships
- Is comfortable working to sales and gross profit targets
- Can identify opportunities, handle objections and close a sale
- Takes ownership and follows things through
- Is organised enough to keep on top of customers, quotes and follow-ups
- Understands that great sales are about both revenue and margin
- Enjoys being part of a busy, customer-focused branch team
Experience within builders’ merchants, plumbing or heating would be useful, but it isn’t essential. We’re more interested in finding someone with the right commercial instincts, energy and approach.
