Description
Ready to take on complex network challenges and play a key role in keeping our customers connected?
We’re looking for a Customer Network Engineer to join our Network Operations function. Based from our Manchester office on a hybrid basis, you’ll work as part of an experienced network team whose other members work remotely — giving you the opportunity to take real ownership while still having the support and expertise of the wider team around you.
This is a hands-on technical role where you’ll design, configure, deploy and troubleshoot customer network solutions across our growing national infrastructure.
You’ll work across technologies including routing, switching, firewalls, SD-WAN, MPLS, VPNs, LAN and WLAN, supporting the delivery of complex B2B customer solutions from initial design through to successful deployment.
As our network continues to grow, you’ll also gain exposure to full-fibre infrastructure, automation, software-defined networking and NFV, while becoming a trusted technical escalation point within Network Operations.
What you'll be doing
- Configure and deploy routers, switches, firewalls and wireless network solutions.
- Turn complex customer High Level Designs (HLDs) into practical, deliverable Low Level Designs (LLDs).
- Provision and thoroughly test new customer services, ensuring performance, security and successful service delivery.
- Configure and implement WAN technologies including SD-WAN, MPLS and VPN solutions.
- Configure firewalls, security policies, IPSec/SSL VPNs and intrusion prevention.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues, working closely with internal teams and external suppliers to get to resolution.
- Act as a technical escalation point for L1 and L2 Network Support.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve network performance, resilience and security.
- Create and maintain clear network diagrams, configurations, procedures and technical documentation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
