An exciting opportunity within the waste and recycling industry

You’ll support our customer service and administration teams, helping with customer enquiries, collection bookings, job administration, documentation and general office duties while developing your skills and industry knowledge along with hosting duties etc.

Wage

£15,600 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

What you'll do at work

HAZ TECH Ltd is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Customer Service Apprentice to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start their career, develop valuable business skills and gain experience within the waste and recycling industry.

Working alongside our experienced Customer Service, Operations and Sales teams, you will receive full training and support while gradually taking on greater responsibility as your knowledge and confidence develop.

The role will involve a combination of customer service, administration and operational support, including:

  • Answering incoming telephone calls and dealing with customer enquiries in a friendly and professional manner
  • Monitoring and responding to emails and directing enquiries to the appropriate member of the team
  • Providing general administrative support across the business
  • Accurately entering and maintaining customer, collection and job information on company systems
  • Assisting with booking and coordinating waste and recycling collections throughout the UK
  • Communicating with customers regarding collection dates, requirements and service updates
  • Preparing, processing and assisting with, waste documentation and Proofs of Delivery (PODs) and Hazardous Waste Consignment Notes (HWCN’s)
  • Supporting the preparation of quotations and other customer documentation
  • Liaising with drivers, suppliers, recycling facilities and other members of the HAZ TECH team
  • Maintaining accurate electronic records and assisting with general data management
  • Learning about the different services provided by HAZ TECH, including the collection and recycling of WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment), batteries, vapes and other waste streams
  • Developing an understanding of environmental compliance and the importance of accurate documentation and record keeping within the waste and recycling industry
  • Supporting the Customer Service, Operations and Sales teams with day-to-day activities and projects
  • Undertaking additional duties and responsibilities as your skills, knowledge and experience develop
  • Assisting with the hosting of site visits etc.

No previous experience within the waste and recycling industry is required.

We are looking for someone who is organised, reliable, punctual, willing to learn and comfortable communicating with customers and colleagues. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will work towards your Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship, combining structured learning with practical workplace experience. This role has been designed to provide a genuine starting point for a long-term career with HAZ TECH. As you progress through the apprenticeship, you will be encouraged to take greater ownership and responsibility, with potential future opportunities within Customer Service, Operations, Sales Support, Account Management or wider Business Administration. For the right person, our aim is for the apprenticeship to lead to a permanent position and continued career progression within HAZ TECH Ltd.

What you'll learn

Course contents

Skilled in the use of multiple IT packages and systems relevant to the organisation in order to: write letters or emails, create proposals, perform financial processes, record and analyse data. Examples include MS Office or equivalent packages. Able to choose the most appropriate IT solution to suit the business problem. Able to update and review databases, record information and produce data analysis where required.

Produces accurate records and documents including: emails, letters, files, payments, reports and proposals. Makes recommendations for improvements and present solutions to management. Drafts correspondence, writes reports and able to review others' work. Maintains records and files, handles confidential information in compliance with the organisation's procedures. Coaches others in the processes required to complete these tasks.

Exercises proactivity and good judgement. Makes effective decisions based on sound reasoning and is able to deal with challenges in a mature way. Seeks advice of more experienced team members when appropriate.

Builds and maintains positive relationships within their own team and across the organisation. Demonstrates ability to influence and challenge appropriately. Becomes a role model to peers and team members, developing coaching skills as they gain area knowledge.

Demonstrates good communication skills, whether face-to-face, on the telephone, in writing or on digital platforms. Uses the most appropriate channels to communicate effectively. Demonstrates agility and confidence in communications, carrying authority appropriately. Understands and applies social media solutions appropriately. Answers questions from inside and outside of the organisation, representing the organisation or department.

Completes tasks to a high standard. Demonstrates the necessary level of expertise required to complete tasks and applies themself to continuously improve their work. Is able to review processes autonomously and make suggestions for improvements. Shares administrative best-practice across the organisation e.g. coaches others to perform tasks correctly. Applies problem-solving skills to resolve challenging or complex complaints and is a key point of contact for addressing issues.

Takes responsibility for initiating and completing tasks, manages priorities and time in order to successfully meet deadlines. Positively manages the expectations of colleagues at all levels and sets a positive example for others in the workplace.
