Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
United Carpets require a Customer Service Apprentice for their Long Eaton branch. The shop is open 7 days per week, and the Apprentice will be required to work 5 days per week, including weekends and bank holidays, with annual leave of 20 days per year.
The ideal person must have good customer service skills, be numerical, have good English language skills, and be physically fit. They must also be able to work on their own or as part of a team.
The Worksop branch is a retail sales shop dealing with the public and all aspects of paperwork and financial elements involved. The right candidate must be physically fit as the role involves taking receipt of cut length carpets, underlay, and rolls of carpet that have to be racked up.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
