Freelance / self-employed | Ad-hoc hours | Seasonal business | Remote

I am looking for a reliable, proactive freelance assistant to support a growing e-commerce business specialising in solar eclipse glasses.

To be completely honest, I am looking for someone who could become a real right-hand person to the business — someone who is curious, commercially minded and genuinely interested in learning how an e-commerce business operates.

I am a solo entrepreneur and started the business in the USA in 2024 after years of preparation, including learning about the relevant regulations, developing supplier relationships and building the brand itself. Following its success, I replicated the business in the UK in 2026, where it has grown significantly faster than anticipated.

With major upcoming eclipse opportunities, including the UK eclipse on 2nd August 2027 and further opportunities in Australia and New Zealand in 2028, there are some very exciting projects ahead.

This is a varied freelance role and the work will change according to the needs of the business and the time of year. I am particularly looking for someone who enjoys working independently, solving problems and taking initiative rather than simply waiting to be told what to do.

The role would suit someone who is interested in e-commerce, entrepreneurship, customer service, space and eclipses, and who would like to gain practical experience of how a growing online business operates.

Potential areas of work

Depending on your skills and the needs of the business, work may include:

  • Responding to customer emails and enquiries in line with the brand’s tone and customer service standards
  • Reviewing and updating fulfilment and order information, ensuring records are accurate
  • Assisting with website updates, including offers, announcements and other content
  • Assisting with newsletters, promotions and customer outreach
  • Supporting social media and content creation
  • Monitoring relevant news and developments relating to upcoming eclipses and solar eclipse glasses
  • Assisting with the organisation and onboarding of temporary freelance support during particularly busy periods
  • Identifying problems and suggesting practical solutions
  • Other related e-commerce and administrative projects as mutually agreed

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The exact mix of work will depend on the business’s requirements and your own skills and interests.

Who I am looking for

You don’t need to have experience in every area above. More important to me is finding someone who is curious, dependable and enjoys figuring things out.

I’d particularly like to hear from someone who has:

  • An interest in space, the universe and eclipses
  • An interest in entrepreneurship, e-commerce and customer service
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach to work
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to suggest practical solutions
  • The ability to work independently and manage agreed tasks and deadlines
  • The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with customer complaints or delivery issues
  • Excellent written English and strong written communication skills
  • An ability to adapt as priorities change, particularly during busy seasonal periods
  • An interest in learning how a small e-commerce business operates from the ground up
  • Someone who genuinely wants to learn and grow

If you would like to run a business yourself one day or would like to develop your career by working closely with a growing business and having a genuine impact, this could be a great opportunity for you.

There may be very little work during quieter periods and significantly more work available during eclipse season. During particularly busy periods, including the lead-up to the August 2027 eclipse, there may be opportunities for substantially increased hours for freelancers who have the availability and wish to take on additional work.

I am ideally looking for someone who is interested in building a long-term freelance working relationship with the business and becoming familiar with its systems and operations ahead of the 2027 eclipse.

There is no obligation to accept every piece of work offered, and the amount of work available will depend on business requirements and your availability.

Pay

Freelance rate to be agreed based on experience, skills and the nature of the work undertaken.

Freelancers will invoice for work completed in accordance with the agreed rate and arrangements.

As this is intended to be a genuine self-employed freelance arrangement, the successful applicant will be responsible for their own tax and National Insurance obligations and will not be an employee of the business.

Location

Remote / flexible.

  • Why this role interests you
  • Any experience you have in e-commerce, customer service, administration, social media or running a business

  • Your preferred freelance hourly rate (if applicable)

I’m much more interested in finding the right person and personality than someone who ticks every box. If you’re curious, proactive and excited by the idea of getting involved with a small business at an early stage, I’d love to hear from you!
