About The Role
As a Customer Solutions Design Specialist (Automation), you'll design and deliver innovative automation solutions that help BT's customers build reliable, scalable, and efficient network environments. Working within our Design and Delivery team, you'll collaborate with colleagues across networking, cloud, and platform engineering to create Infrastructure as Code solutions that drive consistency and operational excellence. This is an exciting opportunity to influence technical design decisions, shape future automation capabilities, and contribute to some of BT's most complex customer environments.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design and deliver automation solutions using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Git, and CI/CD technologies to support customer outcomes.
- Lead and support the automation of network, cloud, and infrastructure services across enterprise environments, ensuring scalable and reliable deployment approaches.
- Partner with network, platform, and delivery teams to develop reusable automation frameworks, testing approaches, and governance controls.
- Improve operational efficiency by troubleshooting automation challenges, optimising existing solutions, and promoting best practice adoption across teams.
- Deliver technical leadership by contributing to design reviews, influencing automation strategy, and sharing knowledge with colleagues and stakeholders.

Essential Skills / Experience
- Proven ability to design and implement Infrastructure as Code solutions using automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
- Strong understanding of Cisco SDWAN/AC
- Excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills, with experience working across engineering teams to deliver customer-focused outcomes.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Experience with CI/CD platforms such as Harness, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
- Knowledge of Python, Bash, API integrations, or automated testing frameworks.
- Exposure to Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform environments.
- Understanding of SD-WAN, Cisco ACI, network programmability, or enterprise networking concepts.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, container technologies, monitoring, or observability tools.
- Relevant cloud, automation, or DevOps certifications.
