About The Role
As part of a major networking programme, you will play a key role in supporting and developing one of the UK's largest shared network infrastructures.
In this role, you will help drive the ongoing development and evolution of the core network, designing and delivering complex Wide Area Network (WAN) solutions for customers while evaluating and introducing new technologies and services. Working closely with a range of stakeholders, you will contribute to the delivery of resilient, scalable, and supportable connectivity solutions that meet both current and future requirements.
You will support the introduction and enhancement of services such as cloud connectivity, multi-homed internet transit, and higher-speed core network capabilities, helping to ensure the network continues to provide secure, reliable, and future-ready connectivity for the organisations that depend on it. This is an exciting opportunity to work on critical national infrastructure while helping to shape its future performance, resilience, and service offering.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Take responsibility for design activities across the core network upgrades and complex customer WAN solutions.
- Become a subject matter expert on the core network design and operation.
- Create clear, supportable network designs and documentation for customer edge, core and service-provider network solutions.
- Support standardization, simplification and automation in network design and deployment.
- Analyze emerging technology trends and work with vendors to understand new hardware and software capabilities.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to engineering and support teams.
- Provide fourth-line support for complex operational issues, using evidence and facts to resolve problems from the bottom up.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
