Our Customer Support Engineering team provides engineering support for the operation and maintenance of OEM gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, control systems and auxiliary equipment. The team works across scheduled and forced outages, ongoing plant operations, new business development and existing customer expansion, collaborating closely with programme management, commercial, tendering, service and repair teams.
This is a varied, customer-facing engineering role where you will have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise across multiple areas while making a direct contribution to the reliability, availability and safety of operating assets.
Key Responsibilities
As a Customer Support Engineer, you will:
- Provide technical support and problem resolution for customers relating to gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, control systems and associated auxiliaries.
- Support the operation and maintenance of MHI gas turbines, steam turbines, control systems and auxiliary equipment.
- Respond to internal and external customer requests, applying strong technical knowledge, analytical skills and sound engineering principles.
- Investigate technical issues, identify root causes and develop effective corrective actions.
- Lead and manage root cause analysis for significant technical issues and provide technical leadership to personnel involved in resolving customer problems.
- Act as a liaison between field service teams and design engineering to drive timely technical resolutions.
- Support planned inspections and maintenance activities, including acting as the company engineer during gas and steam turbine inspections when required.
- Provide engineering support during planned and unplanned/forced outages to help meet customer availability requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, procedures, specifications, presentations and other engineering documentation.
- Ensure technical data and project information are accurately documented in accordance with engineering policies and procedures.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations and participate in customer technical review meetings.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring their technical requirements and issues are understood and addressed promptly.
- Provide technical input to commercial teams supporting sales, service and proposal activities.
- Act as an interface between commercial, service and repair functions.
- Support the identification and resolution of Technical Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Requests for Action (RFAs).
- Develop proactive working procedures and improvements to increase future efficiency.
- Assist the Engineering Manager and wider engineering team with customer support activities and other technical projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
