About The Role

We are seeking a Customer Support Engineer to join our dynamic technical support team near Hythe, Southampton. This role is ideal for individuals who are at the early stages of their IT careers and are passionate about helping customers resolve technical issues. As a Customer Support Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing first-line support via phone, email, and messaging channels
  • Troubleshooting a wide range of technical problems
  • Managing support tickets from initiation to resolution

The position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your technical skills in a supportive environment, with the chance to learn about networking, firewalls, VLANs, VoIP, and operating systems such as Windows and Linux. The role also involves working on-site, requiring a full driving license and personal transport due to the office location.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical knowledge and excellent communication skills. Relevant qualifications include:

  • A recent IT degree
  • Completed apprenticeship
  • Up to 3 years of experience in helpdesk or technical support roles

A good understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, is essential. Knowledge of firewalls, VLANs, VoIP, and experience with Windows or Linux operating systems is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a logical approach to troubleshooting, a keen willingness to learn, and a proactive attitude towards technical development. A full driving license and personal transport are required to facilitate commuting to the office location.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Providing exceptional customer service and technical support to clients
  • Responding promptly to support requests via phone, email, and messaging
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware and software issues
  • Managing support tickets efficiently

You will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining clear communication with customers
  • Explaining technical concepts in an accessible manner
  • Ensuring issues are resolved to the customer's satisfaction

Additionally, you will assist with:

  • Network troubleshooting, configuration, and maintenance tasks
  • Participating in out-of-hours support when needed
