About The Role
As a Customer & UX Researcher, you’ll join our Insight team and play a key role in putting the customer at the heart of our decision-making.
You’ll design, plan and deliver customer and UX research, turning customer feedback, market intelligence and data into clear, actionable insights that help shape business decisions and drive positive change across Matalan.
This is a great opportunity for someone early in their research, insight or data career who is naturally curious, passionate about customers and enjoys using data to understand what people want and need.

As a Customer & UX Researcher, You Will
- Plan and deliver customer and UX research projects, from initial planning through to analysis and reporting.
- Organise and analyse survey data, using findings to create clear and engaging research reports.
- Create data visualisations and reports that bring customer insight to life.
- Extract and analyse data from consumer panel and market intelligence platforms, including GlobalData, Worldpanel and EDITED.
- Carry out desk research to understand customers, competitors, markets and wider trends.
- Work closely with Research Executives and Managers within the Insight team to shape analysis and turn customer feedback into meaningful, actionable insights.
- Help inspire colleagues across the business by bringing the voice of the customer to life and building greater empathy for what our customers need and want from Matalan.
- Stay curious about research methodologies, data analysis and new ways of working, continually developing your own skills and championing insight excellence.
About You
You’ll ideally have:
- 1–2 years’ experience in a role with relevant transferable experience, such as customer or UX research, data analysis, customer service, merchandising or retail.
- A genuine passion for customers, data and retail.
- Strong maths and analytical skills, with an understanding of statistics being an advantage.
- The ability to analyse information, spot trends and draw meaningful conclusions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear and engaging insights.
- A curious mindset and a willingness to learn, ask questions and explore new research approaches.
- The ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and contribute positively within a team.
