About The Role
As a Customer Water Quality Officer based in Hammersmith, you will represent Thames Water on the front line, visiting customer homes and operational sites to collect and test water samples. This full-time role, paying £14.80 per hour, involves travelling across a wide area, ensuring that sampling equipment and records meet rigorous industry standards. You will also assist with investigations into supply problems and customer concerns, working within a supportive team. The position requires a meticulous approach, strong communication skills, and a valid driving licence. You will contribute directly to the safety and quality of the region’s drinking water through your fieldwork and precise data handling.
You’ll be working directly on the front line, acting as the face of Thames Water for their customers.
Each year, Thames Water conducts over 500,000 tests on water samples taken from treatment works, reservoirs, and randomly selected customer properties. This rigorous testing ensures that drinking water consistently meets the highest quality standards.
What you’ll be doing as a Customer Water Quality Officer
- Spend a lot of time out and about, travelling between customer locations and sites, and working as part of a busy, supportive team across a wide geographical area.
- Be responsible for testing water samples and making sure sampling records and equipment are maintained to the right industry standards.
- Support investigations into supply issues and customer complaints, helping to resolve problems quickly and professionally.
Please note the internal title of this role is Water Quality, Technician.

What You Should Bring To The Role
- A clean, manual UK driving licence.
- Experience in a role that involves plenty of driving and working directly with customers would be very beneficial.
- Confidence to carry out unplanned visits to both residential and commercial properties, where customers may not be expecting a visit.
- Good journey planning skills to ensure you work efficiently throughout the day.
- Naturally organised and comfortable working independently, while staying connected with the wider team.
- A strong eye for detail and pride in doing things properly.
- An interest in the water industry, with either existing knowledge or a genuine willingness to learn.
- Good computer skills, with confidence using everyday IT systems.

- Length of assignment: 26 weeks
- Working hours: 38 hours per week, working Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
