Customs and Trade Compliance Executive
Location: Cambridge - Hybrid
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 DOE
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:30

Our client is a growing UK-based business supplying specialist ingredients and solutions to customers across a range of international markets.

About the role
As a Customs and Trade Compliance Executive, you'll play an important role in supporting our Customs and Trade Compliance team, helping to ensure our import and export operations run smoothly, efficiently and in compliance with relevant regulations.
You'll take responsibility for international shipping documentation, customs compliance and logistics coordination across the UK and EU, working closely with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers and internal teams.
This is a varied role where attention to detail, organisation and strong communication skills are essential. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to projects and develop your knowledge of customs, international trade and logistics.

Key responsibilities
- Manage import and export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading and certificates of origin.
- Experience in a Logistics Distribution and Supply Chain environment.
- Ensure the correct customs and supplier documentation is in place to support timely imports.
- Check supplier sales contracts and ensure information held on purchase orders and sales contracts is accurate and consistent.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date information within the ERP system.
- Provide regular updates on delivery schedules and shipment progress.
- Respond to sales and customer queries by obtaining information from suppliers and internal teams.
- Maintain and update reports relating to incoming goods.
- Ensure compliance with UK customs regulations, international trade legislation and company policies.
- Liaise with freight forwarders, shipping lines, customs brokers and suppliers to coordinate shipments.
- Monitor shipments and proactively resolve delays, discrepancies and customs issues.
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready records across internal systems.
- Support customer queries relating to orders, shipments and deliveries.
- Provide support and information relating to shipping methods, lead times and stock allocations.
- Work with Finance on duties, VAT and shipping costs where required.
- Track and report on logistics performance and shipping schedules.
- Keep up to date with changes to customs regulations, trade legislation and international shipping procedures.
- Support the Customs and Trade Compliance team with projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

About you
You'll ideally have:
- Experience in import/export administration or international logistics.
- Knowledge of UK customs procedures and international shipping documentation.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities.
- Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach.
- The ability to work to deadlines while balancing day-to-day responsibilities with longer-term projects.
- Good IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office packages.
Desirable experience
It would be advantageous if you also have:
- Experience using HMRC customs processes or the Customs Declaration Service (CDS).
- Experience working with Incoterms and freight management.
- An understanding of customs procedures, including Customs Warehousing.
- Knowledge of commodity codes, tariffs and wider trade compliance requirements.

- £35,000 - £40,000 per annum DOE
