Job Description
Scope of Position
To ensure the proper and timely clearance and release of consignments, while providing an exceptional customer service within the Customs Brokerage department.
Also required are excellent oral and written communication skills and a proven history of providing exceptional customer service at all levels.
Attention to detail is essential to be successful within this role. Our work environment is team oriented and very fast paced; therefore, a strong candidate must have excellent interpersonal, organizational & time management skills in addition to the professional attitude that exemplifies the Expeditors culture.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive documents.
- Prepare customs entries in Customsware or other customs software.
- Understand the elements of the Import & export customs SOP.
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry into operating systems.
- Ensure timely customs clearance of shipments.
- Monitor customs clearances and communicate with Customers.
- A good understanding of customs procedures and the customs declaration process.
- Scrutinizing documents and other information sources to ensure that sufficient information is available to prepare a customs declaration is in accordance with customs regulations.
- Adhere, where applicable to non-customs regulations (SPS shipments, licensing requirements, prohibitions and restrictions).
- Adhere to the clearing instructions provided by the customer.
- Verification that documentation/information provided covers the shipment being customs cleared (e.g. weights and numbers indicated on commercial documentation matches the information provided on the transportation documents).
- Identify missing or incorrect information on commercial invoices.
- Correctly, following customers instructions as taken up in the “Customer SOP” with regards to HTS classification, customs value determination, origin of goods, and the applicability of preferential rates of duty or treatment.
- Recording all communications with customs in the relevant shipment file.
- Identify and implement improvement opportunities via our tools (Profiles, Edoc lift).
- High level of knowledge and usage of Expeditors systems tools and applications (e.g. expo.Customs, e.Doc, CFIT, ETMS, expo,Accounting).
- High level of knowledge and usage of applicable customs declaration software.
- Work with Customs Compliance Management and Customs Brokerage management to ensure customs brokerage activity is in compliance with regulations, company policies and standards.

Performance Expectations
- Timely and Accurate Shipment Processing: Ensures smooth and timely freight process flow according to Expeditors' operational procedures. Follows customer's standard operating procedures and proactively notifies customers of any issues. Consistently meets KPI standards, as per company's procedures.
- Timely and Accurate Data Entry: Ensures accurate and timely data entry into our operational systems according to Expeditors' operational procedures and customer requirements. Monitors exception reports for quick data integrity resolution.
- Timely and Accurate Billing and Accounting: Invoices customers the expected charges timely and accurately and according to Expeditors and customer requirements. Properly provisions service provider charges to avoid reserves. Follows proper credit approval processes in order to minimize risk and protect the company.
