Customs Brokerage Supervisor (Bilingual Mandarin)

Location: London, UK
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: £40,000-50,000/ Year

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily UK import and export customs clearance operations to ensure efficient and compliant processes.
  • Lead and manage the customs team, allocate daily tasks effectively, and elevate overall team productivity and service quality.
  • Review customs entry documentation to ensure data accuracy and compliance with HMRC and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Manage customs inspections, holds, clearance exceptions, and resolve issues by communicating promptly with clients, HMRC, and related authorities.
  • Guide the team in resolving complex customs issues and continuously optimize operational workflows and standard procedures.
  • Maintain smooth communication and collaboration with clients, warehouse, transportation teams, and overseas agents to ensure seamless clearance.
  • Monitor UK customs policies and regulatory changes to ensure ongoing company compliance.

Requirements:

Basic Requirements

  • Chinese speaking/background with legal entitlement to work in the UK.
  • Fluent in Mandarin and proficient in English as a working language (capable of communicating effectively with clients and HMRC) due to the nature of the role involving frequent communication with Mandarin-speaking clients or partners.
  • On-site position based near London Heathrow Airport.

Work Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in UK customs brokerage or international logistics customs operations.
  • Proven team management experience with a track record of leading a customs team in daily operations.
  • Experience in air freight, freight forwarding, express courier, or cross-border logistics is preferred.

Professional Competencies

  • Familiar with UK import/export clearance processes and HMRC regulations.
  • Proficient in using CDS (Customs Declaration Service) and associated declaration systems.
  • Solid understanding of HS Codes, Import VAT, Customs Duties, Rules of Origin, and compliance standards.
  • Ability to independently handle customs inspections, clearance exceptions, and customer complaints.
  • Strong risk identification ability and compliance awareness.
