CWA Project Manager

We are currently seeking a Project Manager for our client in East Suffolk. This is a contract role and will run to the end of the year but likely to be extended and be long term. Based in Ipswich. Hybrid working. This role falls inside IR35.
Job Purpose / Overview
- The Civil Works Programme comprises a series of projects that will be delivered over a 10-year period. Each element of the scope has been assigned to a combination of participants that will be responsible and accountable for the delivery.
- The Civil Works Programme is responsible for delivering:
- Enabling and Earthworks: sea defences, access facilities, civil engineering work to support site establishment, diaphragm walling around the nuclear plant footprint, dewatering, excavation and earthworks.
- Tunnelling and Marine: beach landing facility, jetty, shafts and intake and outfall tunnels for the nuclear plant cooling systems.
- Main Civil Works: technical galleries, cooling system pipework, foundation base slab and over 70 large buildings for the nuclear plant.
- Successful delivery of the Civil Works Programme requires excellent coordination and integration with the Site Establishment, Site Operations, and Mechanical / Electrical / Heating (MEH) Alliance.
- The execution strategy involves:
- Maximising replication of HPC design to limit the extent of First of a Kind design to site-specific elements.
- Introduction and establishment of a programme management structure.

The role holder will:
- Leadership - strong operationally focused leader acting as the Intelligent Client working in close collaboration with the Delivery Team organisation to ensure oversight, performance management and assurance of the scope, schedule, budget, and costs of the Delivery Team within a perimeter of authority in accordance with the IMS.
- Leadership - Input to and Implementation of strategy to embed HPC civil construction learning into SZC.
- Work closely with key stakeholders within the CWA and client organisations to ensure priorities are aligned and communicated to delivery teams.
- Ensure that "best for project" decisions are made across various interfaces.
- Escalation/resolution of relevant matters outside of the Delivery Team's delegation of authority.
- Anticipate, manage and resolve transverse issues i.e. those not limited to specific geographical areas.
- Identify risks and facilitate the resolution of all issues raised, and escalate as necessary.
- Apply the principles of Earned Value Management (EVM).
- Apply the principles of Continuous Improvement.
- Ensure that lessons-learnt and knowledge-capture are practiced as business as usual.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all project team members.
Dimensions
- This is a key role within the Civil Works Alliance organisation and is responsible for technical management of transverse topics relating to delivery of Main Civil Works.
- The role is responsible for identifying and driving integration of relevant construction experience and learning from HPC to support efficient delivery of CWA scope e.g. prefabrication, pre-cast, rebar enhancement, SFS, paperless construction.

- Experience of working with Alliances and Joint Ventures
- Experience of civil construction on HPC
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Experience of working in a regulated environment/industry
- Demonstrable knowledge of MEH interface appreciation
Desirable
- Chartered member of relevant Institution
- APM Project management Qualification
- Experience of working in programme of works with multi nationalities and cultures
- Experience of managing / influencing contractors, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex construction projects.
- Excellent presentation, influencing and facilitation skills.
- Experience in Client organizations
- Strong technical background in reinforcement detailing or other core civil disciplines
