Cyber Platform Engineer
Location: Sheffield (60% onsite / 40% remote)
IR35: Inside IR35
The Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Cyber Platform Engineer to join a high-performing Cyber Security Engineering team, building the platforms, automation, and services that underpin critical cyber security capabilities.
This role is ideal for a software engineer first, with strong development experience and a passion for building production-grade systems. You'll work across backend engineering, cloud platforms, automation, and DevOps practices, developing scalable solutions that support cyber security and data engineering teams.
What You'll Be Doing
Software Engineering
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and engineering tools.
- Build production-quality software using Python.
- Apply engineering best practices including SOLID principles, design patterns, testing, and code reviews.
- Develop scalable, secure, and maintainable applications.
- Produce technical documentation and contribute to engineering standards.

Cloud & Platform Engineering
- Deploy and support services within AWS or Azure environments.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Build secure integrations and support cloud-native architecture patterns.
- Support platforms used by Cyber Security and Data Engineering teams.
DevOps & Reliability
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions.
- Troubleshoot production issues and support operational environments.
- Continuously improve platform reliability, performance, and security.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong software engineering background with significant hands-on development experience.
- Commercial experience developing production applications using:
- Python
- Go
- Experience building APIs, microservices, and backend services.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices.
- Experience with automated testing including unit, integration, TDD, or BDD approaches.
- Cloud experience within AWS and/or Azure.
- Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
- Strong troubleshooting and operational support capabilities.
