Cyber Security Apprentice

Direct Online Services seeks a motivated Cyber Security Apprentice to gain hands-on experience in cyber operations, networks, ecommerce security, governance, incident response, and analytics while completing a BSc Cyber Security Degree Apprenticeship. Ideal for someone eager to build a long-term cyber security career.

What you'll do at work

  • Support monitoring, review, and improvement of DOS cyber security
  • Help strengthen how DOS manages user access across business systems
  • Support the protection of DOS infrastructure, including devices, networks, and hosted systems
  • Support security across our websites, internal applications, and digital platforms
  • Help build a more structured and visible cyber security governance approach across DOS
  • Support DOS in preparing for, responding to, and learning from cyber incidents
  • Support the use of data to identify patterns, risks, and security improvement opportunities

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Fluent in written communications and able to articulate complex issues.
  • Makes concise, engaging, and well-structured verbal presentations, arguments, and explanations.
  • Able to deal with different, competing interests within and outside the organisation with excellent negotiation skills.
  • Able to identify the preferences, motivations, strengths, and limitations of other people and apply these insights to work more effectively with and to motivate others.
  • Able to work effectively with others to achieve a common goal.
  • Competent in active listening and in leading, influencing, and persuading others.
  • Able to give and receive feedback constructively and incorporate it into his/her own development and lifelong learning.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills for Technology Solutions development and can systematically analyse and apply structured problem-solving techniques to complex systems and situations.
  • Able to put forward, demonstrate value, and gain commitment to a moderately complex technology-oriented solution, demonstrating understanding of business need, using open questions and summarising skills and basic negotiating skills.
  • Can conduct effective research, using literature and other media.
  • Logical thinking and creative approach to problem-solving.
  • Able to demonstrate a ‘security mind-set’ (how to break as well as make).

Training schedule

The training will be provided by the University of Gloucestershire at Cheltenham Park Campus. Dates and times of training to be confirmed at a later date.

Essential qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade C or 4 and above)
    • Maths (grade C or 4 and above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
