Cyber Security Architect

Senior Security Architect/Risk Owner – Cyber Security & Transformation

The Organisation: Insurance for the Audacious

At Hiscox, we don’t just insure against risk—we help bold ambitions become reality. Whether it’s safeguarding kidnap-and-ransom payouts, cyber exposure for high-net-worth clients, or marine cargo shipments, we navigate high-stakes risks with innovation.

This is more than an insurance business—it’s a force for economic possibility. Our $200m transformation programme is rewriting how we underwrite risk while embedding security at every level. From agentic AI to distributed data challenges, we don’t just react to threats—we build resilience into the future.

As a security leader here, you’ll craft solutions that enable growth, not impede it.

The Role

You’ll straddle two critical imperatives:

  • Day-to-day security operations: Designing, implementing, and maturing defences against evolving threats.
  • Transformation security ownership: Ensuring new products, tech stacks, and processes are secure by design—not bolted on later.

What You’ll Do

  • Take end-to-end ownership of a breadth-heavy security portfolio, juggling multiple projects across cloud, data, and cyber—balancing innovation with risk mitigation.
  • Translate business needs (from underwriters to data scientists) into practical, scalable security requirements.
  • Escalate issues, act as a trusted advisor to execs, and clarify security trade-offs for stakeholders—whether it’s the board, regulators (FCA, Lloyd’s, NYDFS, DORA), or underwriters.
  • Drive automation-first thinking—writing scripts, implementing workflows (you don’t need to be a dev, but hands-on experience matters).
  • Understand and influence security at scale: AI developability, supply chain vulnerabilities, large-language model risks.
  • Champion a culture where security enables enablement—protecting the business while removing friction for innovation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

✔ You know financial services regulation inside out: FCA, Lloyd’s, NYDFS (bonus: DORA technical nuances). IoT, cyber, and general insurance—some of them may say your name.

✔ Security innovation: You’ve built solutions from scratch, not just configured commercial tools. Direct experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001, CCPA/GDPR is gold.

✔ Democracy in design: You’ve mediated between business goals, threat vectors, and engineering pragmatism—executing on solutions that do smart, not just protect.

✔ Automation mindset: You evaluate, prototype, and apply efficient remediations. (Familiarity with Python, Terraform, or Dev-sec-Ops frameworks gets extra attention.)

✔ AI/data security: Your radar is tuned to hyperscale modelling risks, supply chain leakage, and large-language tooling—whether LLM guardrails, or data mesh security.

✔ Regulatory liaison: Most firms bury security trends reports under bureaucracy—you’ve translated the FCA’s NetZero plan for teams and MBBs.

Who’s Got It Together

We’re hunting for 3–5 “yes” answers to the above (seriously—self-assess). If it’s 1–2, you’ll learn fast here. Now go proof it with us.
