Cyber Security Engineer

Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £50,000 plus benefits

The Opportunity

An established organisation in the North East is seeking a proactive, hands-on Cyber Security Engineer to strengthen its security posture and lead day-to-day cyber protection across its systems, networks, and cloud environment.

As the organisation’s internal cyber security SME, you will have the opportunity to shape improvements and enhance resilience, working closely with colleagues across IT and the wider business.

This is a predominantly site-based role so applicants must reside within a commutable distance of the office.

Our client is unable to sponsor visas so candidates must have a permanent right to work in the UK

The Role

Joining a close-knit and highly collaborative IT function, you will play a key role in protecting the organisation’s infrastructure while working as part of a small, multi-skilled team delivering day-to-day IT services. Alongside your cyber security responsibilities, you will support operational IT activity through the service desk, responding to tickets, assisting users, and contributing to the smooth running of Microsoft 365, Azure, infrastructure, and hybrid environments.

Working alongside IT colleagues and a third-party MDR provider, your work will combine security monitoring, incident response, continuous improvement, ticket-based support, and broader departmental requirements. This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys teamwork, shared ownership, and balancing cyber security priorities with the everyday needs of a busy IT department.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
