About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join a well-established Cyber Resilience team. This hybrid role based in Cardiff offers an exciting opportunity to take a hands-on approach in enhancing the security posture of a complex technological environment. The successful candidate will be instrumental in managing and optimizing security operations across various platforms, with a focus on Microsoft security technologies, cloud security, identity management, vulnerability mitigation, and threat detection. The role involves collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders to implement security controls, support incident response, and contribute to the organization’s overall cyber resilience strategy. This position provides a chance to work in a dynamic environment where your expertise will directly impact the security and integrity of critical systems and data.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess proven experience as a Security Engineer, demonstrating a strong background in managing security technologies and frameworks. Essential qualifications include extensive knowledge of Microsoft Defender and Sentinel platforms, hands-on experience with Azure security, and expertise in Entra ID security management, including Conditional Access, Identity Protection, and privileged access controls. A solid understanding of vulnerability management, security frameworks such as NCSC CAF, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and CIS Controls is required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage relationships with stakeholders at all levels are critical. Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or Microsoft Security certifications are highly desirable.

Responsibilities
- Manage and enhance the capabilities of Microsoft Defender and Sentinel to ensure optimal threat detection and response.
- Secure Azure cloud environments by implementing and maintaining robust security controls and policies.
- Oversee Entra ID security configurations, including Conditional Access policies, Identity Protection, and privileged access management.
- Support vulnerability management processes by identifying, prioritizing, and remediating security vulnerabilities across systems.
- Implement data protection strategies utilizing Microsoft Purview to safeguard sensitive information.
- Participate in threat monitoring, detection, and incident response activities to mitigate security risks proactively.
- Provide expert security advice during technology projects, architecture design, and system integrations.
- Ensure compliance with security frameworks and standards such as NCSC CAF, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and CIS Controls.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on security matters, supporting both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders to foster a security-aware culture.
