About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join a well-established Cyber Resilience team. This hybrid role based in Cardiff offers an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal part in enhancing the security posture of a complex technology environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and advancing security operations across various platforms, with a focus on Microsoft security technologies, cloud security, identity management, vulnerability mitigation, and threat detection. You will collaborate closely with technical teams and stakeholders to develop and implement security strategies that align with industry standards and best practices. Your expertise will contribute to strengthening the organization’s cyber resilience, ensuring the protection of critical assets and data from evolving cyber threats.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess proven experience as a Security Engineer with a strong background in Microsoft security solutions. Essential qualifications include hands-on expertise with Microsoft Defender and Sentinel, robust knowledge of Azure security and Entra ID, and practical experience in vulnerability management. A solid understanding of security frameworks such as NCSC CAF, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and CIS Controls is required, along with excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. A degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred, complemented by relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and enhancing Microsoft Defender and Sentinel capabilities to ensure optimal security monitoring and incident response.
  • Securing Azure environments through the implementation of effective security controls and configurations.
  • Overseeing Entra ID security, including Conditional Access policies, Identity Protection, and privileged access management.
  • Supporting vulnerability management processes, including regular assessments, remediation planning, and coordination.
  • Implementing data protection measures utilizing Microsoft Purview to safeguard sensitive information.
  • Monitoring, detecting, and responding to security threats and incidents in a timely manner.
  • Providing expert security advice during technology projects and architecture decisions to ensure security best practices are integrated.
  • Supporting compliance with security frameworks such as NCSC CAF, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and CIS Controls through policy development and audits.
  • Acting as a security subject matter expert (SME), communicating complex security concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
