About The Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join our client’s Cyber Resilience team. This hybrid role based in Cardiff offers an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic and complex technology environment, focusing on enhancing security operations and safeguarding critical digital assets. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and improving security technologies, particularly within the Microsoft security ecosystem, including Defender, Sentinel, Azure security, and identity management. This role requires a proactive approach to vulnerability management, threat detection, and incident response, ensuring the organization’s cyber resilience is robust and aligned with industry standards and frameworks. The Cyber Security Engineer will act as a subject matter expert, providing security guidance across various projects and engaging with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders to promote security best practices.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess proven experience as a Security Engineer, demonstrating a strong understanding of cloud security, identity management, and vulnerability mitigation. Essential qualifications include hands-on experience with Microsoft Defender and Sentinel, as well as a solid background in managing Azure environments and Entra ID security features such as Conditional Access and Privileged Access Management. Candidates should have familiarity with security frameworks such as NCSC CAF, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and CIS Controls, along with excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with diverse teams. A relevant cybersecurity certification (e.g., CISSP, CISM, or Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity) is highly desirable. The candidate must be detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
- Manage and enhance Microsoft Defender and Sentinel security capabilities to ensure optimal threat detection and response.
- Secure Azure cloud environments by implementing and maintaining effective security controls and policies.
- Oversee Entra ID security configurations, including Conditional Access policies, Identity Protection, and privileged access management.
- Support vulnerability management processes by identifying, assessing, and remediating security vulnerabilities across systems.
- Implement data protection measures using Microsoft Purview to safeguard sensitive information.
- Monitor security alerts, investigate incidents, and coordinate response activities to mitigate potential threats.
- Contribute security expertise to technology projects, providing input on architecture, design, and security controls.
- Align security practices with industry standards and frameworks such as NCSC CAF, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and CIS Controls.
- Act as a security SME, translating technical security concepts for non-technical stakeholders and fostering a security-aware culture within the organization.
