Role Description
Cyber Security Engineer – Automotive
The Cyber Security Engineer – Automotive will work Hybrid in Derby in a full-time capacity, focusing on securing vehicle platforms, embedded systems, and related infrastructure. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing security controls for automotive applications and networks
- Performing threat and risk assessments
- Conducting vulnerability analysis across vehicle systems
- Collaborating with software, hardware, and systems engineering teams to integrate security requirements into design, development, and testing processes
- Investigating security incidents
- Supporting compliance with relevant automotive and information security standards
- Documenting security architectures, policies, and procedures
- Staying current with emerging automotive cyber threats and recommending improvements to security tools, methodologies, and development practices

- Strong expertise in Cybersecurity and Information Security, with the ability to define and implement security requirements for automotive systems.
- Experience in Application Security, including secure coding practices, security reviews, and protection of embedded and connected vehicle applications.
- Proficiency in Network Security for in-vehicle networks and connected infrastructure, including secure communication protocols and segmentation.
- Hands-on experience with Vulnerability Assessment, penetration testing, and remediation across automotive platforms and supporting systems.
- Familiarity with automotive standards and frameworks (e.g., ISO/SAE 21434, UNECE R155/R156) and general security frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST).
- Solid understanding of embedded systems, CAN/LIN/FlexRay/Ethernet-based vehicle networks, and OTA update mechanisms.
- Proficiency with common security tools and methodologies (e.g., threat modeling, fuzz testing, static and dynamic analysis tools).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline; advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CEH, GIAC) are beneficial.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and communicate technical issues clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to operate effectively in an on-site, collaborative environment and manage multiple concurrent projects or tasks.
