About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join our client's Cyber Resilience team in a hybrid working environment based in Cardiff. This pivotal role involves taking a hands-on approach to enhance security operations across a complex and dynamic technology landscape. The successful candidate will work closely with various teams to implement and manage security measures that safeguard the organization’s digital assets. The role offers an excellent opportunity to influence security strategies, work with cutting-edge Microsoft security technologies, and contribute to the organization’s overall cyber resilience. The position offers a competitive salary range of £62,000 to £72,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your professional growth and personal wellbeing.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess proven experience as a Security Engineer, demonstrating a solid understanding of security principles and practices. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Defender and Sentinel platforms is essential, along with hands-on experience managing Azure environments and Entra ID security features such as Conditional Access and Identity Protection. Candidates should have practical experience in vulnerability management, threat detection, and incident response. Familiarity with security frameworks including NCSC CAF, ISO 27001, NIST CSF, and CIS Controls is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management abilities are crucial for effectively conveying technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or Microsoft Security certifications will be advantageous.

Responsibilities
- Manage and enhance the capabilities of Microsoft Defender and Sentinel to ensure optimal security monitoring and incident response.
- Secure Azure cloud environments by implementing robust security controls and best practices.
- Oversee Entra ID security configurations, including Conditional Access policies, Identity Protection, and privileged access management.
- Support vulnerability management processes by conducting assessments, prioritizing remediation efforts, and tracking resolution progress.
- Implement data protection policies and controls using Microsoft Purview to safeguard sensitive information.
- Participate in threat monitoring, detection, and incident response activities to mitigate security risks effectively.
- Provide expert security input into technology projects, architecture designs, and strategic initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of security frameworks, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Act as a security Subject Matter Expert (SME), engaging with both technical teams and business stakeholders to promote security awareness and best practices.
