Cyber Security Specialist - 6 months Contract - £450/day via umbrella company - Hybrid Birmingham- SCC FLEX CONTRACT

We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Cyber Security Specialist to join our Cyber Security Operations team. This role is responsible for helping protect the organisation through the implementation and management of security controls, threat detection and response, security monitoring, and cyber security project delivery. Working closely with IT teams and stakeholders, the Cyber Security Engineer will play a key role in reducing cyber risk and strengthening security across the business.

Your responsibilities as a Cyber Security Specialist:

  • Implement and maintain cyber security controls, including XDR, vulnerability management, and privileged access management solutions.
  • Act as an escalation point for security incidents, alerts, and security-related requests.
  • Perform threat hunting, security monitoring, incident response, and vulnerability management activities.
  • Support cyber security projects, including security tooling implementations and system hardening initiatives.
  • Ensure security tools are deployed, configured, and operating effectively across business environments.
  • Support offensive security activities, including penetration testing, red team exercises, and tabletop simulations.
  • Provide cyber security guidance and technical consultancy to stakeholders and project teams.
  • Conduct security assessments, compliance reviews, and reporting against recognised security frameworks.
  • Identify emerging threats and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Complete regular operational checks to ensure the health and effectiveness of security systems.

As a suitable Cyber Security Specialist, you will have:

  • Experience implementing and managing security technologies and security controls.
  • Strong knowledge of threat detection, incident response, vulnerability management, and security monitoring.
  • Good understanding of security frameworks and standards such as NIST, CIS Controls, and PCI DSS.
  • Knowledge of networking, infrastructure, identity and access management, and security best practices.
  • Experience with endpoint security, XDR, SIEM/SOAR, and vulnerability management tools.
  • Understanding of cloud security principles; Microsoft 365 and Azure security experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of GDPR and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
